Thomas R. Beers, MD
Dr. Beers has been in Florida since his family moved to Orlando from California when he was in middle school. He received his undergraduate education at Tulane University in New Orleans, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned a Masters of Science degree in biochemistry from Florida State University in 1981. He completed medical school and his internship at the University of Florida. He moved to Minnesota to complete Internal Medicine training at Hennepin Co. Medical Center in Minneapolis. Fellowship in Gastroenterology was at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In 1991 Dr. Beers joined the faculty of the College of Medicine at the University of Florida where he served for 3 years. He joined Digestive Disease Associates in 1998. He is very active in the administrative affairs of the practice. His interests in Gastroenterology are broad with a special interest in therapeutic endoscopy. Dr. Beers is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
Gabu Bhardwaj, MD
Dr. Bhardwaj obtained his medical degree from University of Jammu, Kashmir, India. He completed his internship and residence in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana in 1995. In 1998, he completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the University of Florida.
Dr. Bhardwaj is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and joined Digestive Disease Associates in 2005.
Theodore W. Burns, MD
Dr. Burns is a native of Louisiana and earned a degree in dentistry from Loyola University in New Orleans, followed by his M.D. degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1972. He then came to Shands Teaching Hospital at the University of Florida for training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, completing the training in 1977. After serving two years on active duty in the United States Navy at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, he joined the staff of the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans. Dr. Burns returned to Gainesville in 1986 to join Digestive Disease Associates. In addition to the practice of general gastroenterology, Dr. Burns has a special interest in gastrointestinal motility disorders and therapeutic biliary endoscopy. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
James W. DeFord, MD
Dr. DeFord graduated from the University of Florida, School of Medicine in 1965. His internship was completed at Ohio State University Hospitals in 1966. During 1973, he completed his fellowship program at the University of Florida, College of Medicine. Dr. DeFord served for 11 years in the United States Air Force and was chief of the Gastroenterology Service at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. DeFord founded Digestive Disease Associates in 1977.
Ronald C. Lee, MD
Dr. Ronald Lee was born and raised in New York. He received his B.A. in biology from Columbia University, and his M.D. from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City in 2001. Dr. Lee continued his training at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, completing his internal medicine residency in 2004 and fellowship in Gastroenterology in 2008. He also served as Chief Medical Resident from 2004-5 while at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Lee moved to Gainesville in 2008 to join Digestive Disease Associates in private practice.
Dr. Lee is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Board Certified in Gastroenterology. His special interests include pancreatobiliary disease, complex polypectomy, and theraputic endoscopy.
John R. Leibach, MD
Dr. Leibach received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ohio Wesleyan. His Medical Degree is from Ohio State College of Medicine. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Florida. A Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Gastroenterology,
Dr. Leibach has been in private practice in Gainesville since 1981.
Daniel Maico, MD
Dr. Maico is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia and subsequently went to the Medical College of Georgia for his M.D. He came to the University of Florida where he completed his internship, residency and gastroenterology fellowship. He is certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is past president of the Alachua County Medical Society.
Enrique G. Molina, M.D.
Dr. Molina is a native of Maracaibo, Venezuela where he earned his M.D. degree in 1985. He completed Internal Medicine residency at the University of Miami in 1990 and served as Chief Medical Resident. Dr. Molina completed fellowships in Hepatology at the Center for Liver Diseases and Gastroenterology at the University of Miami in 1994. He joined the faculty at the University of Miami between 1996 and 2003. He was active in clinical research, patient care, liver transplant, and followship training program in the Center for Liver Diseases. Dr. Molina joined Digestive Disease Associates in 2003. He has a special interest in viral hepatitis as well as other liver and biliary tract diseases. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
Shea O. Ross, MD
Dr. Ross grew up in Memphis, Tennessee attending Vanderbilt University and receiving a B.A. in Biology in 1989. He then attended the University of Tennessee School of Medicine, graduating in 1994. Dr. Ross then came to the University of Florida, completing his residency in Internal Medicine in 1997 and serving as Chief Medical Resident 1997-1998. Dr. Ross completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Florida in 2001 before joining Digestive Disease Associates that same year.
Dr. Ross is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
His special interests include pancreatic and biliary disease as well as therapeutic endoscopy.
Charles A. Sninsky, MD
Dr. Sninsky received his Bachelor of Science from Bowling Green State University, and his MD from Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Sninsky completed his internship, residency, and fellowship at the University of Florida, Shands Teaching Hospital. A Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Gastroenterology, Dr. Sninsky has been in private practice in Gainesville since 2000.
Renata Wajsman, MD
Dr. Wajsman grew up in Israel; she received her undergraduate education and medical degree from SUNY at Buffalo in New York. After completing her Residency in Internal Medicine at New York University she underwent training in Gastroenterology at SUNY Buffalo and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Wajsman then joined the Gastroenterology staff at Elmhurst Hospital in New York in affiliation with Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Wajsman then moved to Israel and served as a gastroenterolgist on the faculty of Tel Aviv University. In 1992 Dr. Wajsman and her family moved to Gainesville and joined Digestive Disease Associates.
